About Us

At our clinic, we believe that breast reconstruction is about more than restoring appearance—it's about restoring wholeness, confidence, and sensation.

We specialize in advanced breast reconstruction techniques that not only rebuild the breast after mastectomy but also focus on something often overlooked: the return of natural feeling. Through microsurgical nerve repair and cutting-edge surgical methods, we aim to reconnect both body and self. Our approach is rooted in precision, compassion, and a deep understanding of the physical and emotional journey our patients face.

Every member of our team is committed to providing personalized care, empowering women with options that honor their individual needs and long-term wellbeing. Whether you are exploring reconstruction for the first time or seeking alternatives after previous surgeries, we are here to guide and support you—every step of the way.

Reconstruction isn't just about what’s visible on the outside. With us, it’s about feeling whole again.

About me

Dr. Stefania Tuinder, MD. PhD.Associate Professor

When women opt for breast cancer surgery or preventive surgery for breast reconstruction, the focus is often on the aesthetic result. Understandably, we want to regain something that has been lost and make it as beautiful as possible. But during my career, I've learned that beauty goes beyond form alone.

The most important insight that has guided me in writing Beautiful, is that a reconstruction only truly succeeds when the breast feels natural – not just when it looks natural.

The ideal breast is the absent breast
This statement might sound paradoxical, but it fits my vision well. The ideal breast is the one that naturally fits, where it doesn't immediately “stand out.” That goes for all parts of our body – hands, arms, legs – and thus, for our breasts.

After amputation or reconstruction, the nerve connections between the breast and brain change. This can lead to phantom feelings, or just to numbness, which may feel unnatural. This not only changes how a woman experiences her body, but also her daily life – from sports to intimacy.

Therefore, my work focuses on breast sensitivity: restoring the sensation in the reconstructed breast. Feeling goes further than just being able to perceive touch, warmth, and cold. The most important thing is that the breast feels like part of oneself – as a natural, own part of the body, not something foreign.

More than aesthetics: quality of life
Aesthetic perfection is relative – honestly, it's a bit boring. What truly matters is how a woman feels. Breast reconstruction, if it looks perfect but doesn't feel right, falls short of the goal of restoration.

Every woman therefore deserves a customized reconstruction, where space is made for her personal priorities: aesthetics, sensation, functionality, or a combination of all three.

Kintsugi: scars with strength
I often compare my work to the Japanese kintsugi art: broken ceramics are repaired with gold or silver. The cracks that were once invisible now become visible – and thereby valuable.

I hope that my patients can wear their scars with pride. Because beauty doesn’t lie in perfection, but in transformation. It’s about regaining strength, coming together again, and shining from within.
